What is Sustainable Fashion Definition? Helpful Cheat Sheet for Terms

~ A lot of the time, you may want to wear clothing longer. However, the quality of the item doesn’t agree with you.

M. NELLA

I recently wrote a blog post about the problems of the fast fashion industry.

While I was doing research for writing this blog post I came across tons of articles with shocking stats. The problem was even bigger than I would have ever imagined.

I believe that most of us want to look good in the clothing we wear. Even if you aren’t a pinterest fashion junkie and have literally thousands of outfits saved on your boards.

You only wear the clothing you feel…

Well…

YOU in.

You want to feel good in the clothes you wear. However, it’s becoming more clear everyday that the clothing we wear isn’t exactly good.

Maybe they look good for one season. But then they are out of fashion and we buy 10 new clothing pieces.

This isn’t good for your wallet, but most of all this isn’t good for the world and its people.

Lucky for us there is an alternative!

But what exactly is that alternative?

While being an active user on the internet and someone who loves discovering more sustainable brands, I have come across tons of names and terms. In this blog post I will cover some of these names and explain what they mean.

Okay enough taling (or writing)!

Slow Fashion

Let’s start with this one first 🙂

Slow fashion is the opposite of fast fashion.

As the name suggests, slow fashion is all about fashion that goes slow. Not literally, but the clothes are made to last longer. Furthermore, slow fashion wants justice in the fashion industry for both our environment and socially.

Ethical Fashion

Next one …

Ethical fashion is fashion that is focused on making sure clothes are made in a socially responsible way.

Circular Fashion

You may have heard the term circular (economy) somewhere in school. At least I have 😊

When a clothing piece is circular, its life doesn’t end in the trash.

Every garment can be repurposed for something else. Of course the creating process of the garment is also responsible.

Zero Waste Fashion

I think this one is obvious what it means. It means that zero (or very little) waste is created in the production of a clothing piece.

Eco Fashion

Another word for eco fashion is sustainable fashion. Both are focused on its impact on the environment. Eco fashion aims to produce fashion that doesn’t harm the people or the planet.

Regenerative Fashion

Regenerative fashion means fashion that is made to be recyclable. This includes recycling materials of the clothing and upcycling the pieces.

Conscious fashion

The meaning of conscious fashion is very broad. It basically means that the garment is made keeping the planet and its people in mind. Conscious fashion doesn’t want the world and its citizens to suffer from the fashion industry.
