The REASON I started my BLOG *Should I start a blog?*

~ I did not start blogging for others, but purely for myself. Because I enjoyed running a website and creating content.

M. NELLA

Let’s go back to spring 2021, so a little over a year back. I don’t really know what the exact reason was why I started my blog, but I just did it. I just turned 17 and I wanted to be more creative. It has always been a dream of mine to have my own website.

A little space on the internet that is mine. Somewhere I can share my thoughts, kinda like a journal.

I didn’t start my blog to make money with affiliate marketing or another way. That was not the reason why I started this blog. I started this blog because it has always been my dream. I grew up with the internet. I was 10 in 2014, I know, I am super young. But back to the point! Around that time, I would surf on the internet. I would learn English online because the education in school was very bad.

When I became a little older, powerpoint became a big thing for presentations. I loved creating powerpoints and of course the positive feedback I received 🙂 Teachers would tell me that they liked my powerpoint and that made me feel good. In my free time at home I would create ‘fake’ websites. You know those ones with an address like myname.wordpress.com or myname.squarspace.com. In the end I forgot about those websites but I loved the process of creating them.

1. CREATING WEBSITES

I still know the name of some websites and they look very ugly. But that’s the beauty of learning. Without the experiences I had creating those ‘ugly’websites, I wouldn’t have learned certain things. With all the knowledge I gained I can now create and run this website.

If something turns out to be harder than you thought, that doesn’t mean that the experience you gained is invalid. Just because the artwork you created looks like a child created it doesn’t mean that the experience was useless. Every failure is a lesson to be learned, no matter how small the lesson is.

Somewhere in your life, this lesson may be crucial.

2. FOLLOWING THE HEART.. OR THE EGO

Back to why I created this blog. In may 2021 I uploaded my first blog post on another website. It was about goals I wanted to accomplish in 2021. Very personal! I did not start blogging for others, but purely for myself. Because I enjoyed running a website and creating content. I think sometimes you need to do things (a little bit) because of egoistic reasons.

Not everything you do has to be for others. Just follow your passion and do what makes your heart happy.

3. MENTAL HEALTH

It’s not that I was depressed or sad during that time. But I did feel like I was hiding my voice, whispering, quite literally. I thought that if I shared my voice and thoughts more on the internet, that that would also help me with expressing myself. I wanted to lift the blockage that I saw in my mind.

We as humans may not be physically in a prison. But mentally I think we are. Our beliefs are formed by the opinions of the media. They are not rooted into our own morals and values. Because if that were the case, people wouldn’t have *double standards*.

One of the greatest gifts I got was not physical but had to do with awareness.

Common sense has to do with awareness of oneself and its surroundings. What I have realized about myself is that I was not always driven by common sense but by beliefs programmed into my mind.

By writing on this blog, I became more aware of my belief and my voice. Humans have different beliefs. But at the same time we value a lot of the same things. It’s just the perspective that changes things. What is the right perspective? By researching for my blog I got to know different perspectives and learned to listen without judgment.

4. GRAPHIC DESIGN

Another reason why I started this blog is because I love graphic design. As I already said, I loved creating powerpoints. Of course creating a website is way more technical. Sometimes I would spend hours just to create one page. Of course as you learn more, things go faster. But still, it’s a lot of work, especially if you are stubborn like me.

5. WRITING SKILLS

Another thing that I get told often is that I have a nice way of writing things down. I don’t know what these people exactly mean, I don’t think I write that differently or nice. However, it’s always nice to hear compliments. Sometimes I find it hard to write in English. In school I was good at learning and seeing logic.

Languages are not my best skill, I was and still am a slow learner.

With this blog I could improve my English writing skills. That’s one of the reasons for starting this blog. I think that I have improved my English. If I read a post from 1 year ago, I can see a lot of spelling errors.
