My RnB PLAYLIST for the ultimate THROWBACK to the 90s
~ These bangers are here to stay!
I know what you are thinking…
Where comes this blog post from out of the blue?
Well, recently I have been rediscovering old gems from the 90s. A few years ago, before covid, I listened a lot to R&B. Back then, I didn’t really listen to old songs. I mostly listened to songs from the (then) last 5 years.
Then covid happened and I focused my attention on other things. Mostly on raising my consciousness and awareness about what was going on in the world. As a result I stopped listening to these types of songs.
However, this changed … let’s say… A week ago 🙂
Yeahh… Not very long but I have been totally loving these 90s vibes!
I don’t think this is going to be another phase. Nope these bangers are here to stay! A lot of these songs remind me of my childhood.
I am actually a 2000s baby, I know it’s super boring.(Or is it 😉 ) I am also disappointed in my tiktok and phone-addicted generation.
But hey let’s focus on the bright side of being a 2000s baby. You probably have heard these RnB songs somewhere during your childhood.
I don’t feel like I am the person who should ‘educate’ people on RnB. Because well I am a caucasian living in Europe. And RnB to me represents the African American people, it’s especially giving me the East side vibes. (Idk why)
But let’s not focus on what makes us different, but on what unites us: MUSIC
These songs are not something you listen to.
It’s something you have to feel!
Okay let’s get this going.
Here is a small selection of the songs I have been listening non stop the past few weeks
What is a 90s R&B playlist without a song by Aaliyah? I really like this song, however there are many more of her in my playlist. I think it’s really sad what happened to her. She was sold. Just like many other child stars. The rabbit hole goes very very deep…
I think this is a good song to start your 90s throwback night with. You can’t get bored of this song.
Don’t Walk Away
I really like the beginning! It’s a song that makes you really happy!
The Boy Is Mine
By Brandy, Monica
I can definitely remember this song from my childhood, even though it’s from the 90s. I really like the vibe of this song. However, I have one problem with this song. You shouldn’t fight over a boy… let him go. But it still is an amazing song!
I Wanna Be Down
I actually heard this song before, but then the remix version. I really liked that one and learned some of the lyrics. I still know the lyrics. Let’s be honest, if you know the lyrics of the song, it’s 10 times better! <3
If you were born in the 90s or 2000s you grew up listening to this song. For me this brings back childhood memories. Now that I am older and understand English, I also really like the message.
Don’t Be Afraid
I had to include this because it’s a really nice song to have playing in the background. Very slow and it just makes you happy 😊
Mary Jane (All Night Long)
By Mary J. Bling
Of Course I had to include Mary in this playlist. I really like this song, it’s slow but still has a beat.
By Mary J. Bling
There is also another song from her I really like. It’s called Family Affair, this one is still pretty popular. So you probably know this one if you grew up in this era. You are blessed if you lived in the 90’s, before smartphones!
No words needed. It’s a nasty classic.
By Soul for Real
When you hear the first beats, you know what song I am talking about. Or just by looking at the name you know it. I really like this one and it’s the ultimate 90s throwback song!! Love it!
Spend a Little Doe
By Lil’ Kim
Okay, I don’t know what to say about the lyrics. But the vibe… chef’s kiss. If this doesn’t make you feel like a bad b*, then I really don’t know what will…
Let me know (in the comments) if you are a fan of those 90s bangers <3 I love reading comment from you guys!
