~ The best and healthiest way to take in your daily dose of antioxidants is by eating some fruits and veggies!
M. NELLA
If you think about my generation, Gen Z, your mind probably wanders towards smartphones. You could almost say Gen Z = Smartphone and where a smartphone is, is Gen Z.
It almost seems like we have a personal relationship with smartphones.
A lot of the time we have a toxic relationship with smartphones.

However, it doesn’t need to be this way. There are things we can do to make this a healthy relationship that will help you grow in life.
I believe that smartphones can be great tools, depending on how you use them!
In this blog post I will share some tips that will help you build a good relationship with your smartphone. I call these tips the Digital Detox Tips.
Screen Addiction
Okay, before we dive deep into the Digital Detox Tips I am going to share with you 3 reasons you should ditch your phone. We all know we are wasting time scrolling mindlessly on our phones.
There are so many things we could do in our day. For example, we could go exercising instead of scrolling on social media.
But do we also know the scientific studies showing the negative side effects of our phone addiction?
I think it can be very motivating to find out a little more about these reasons. I hope this will help you stop your phone addiction.
Increases Stress Levels
More than 4000 young adults aged 20-24 years olds participated in a study. This study showed that high frequency use of mobile phones resulted in a negative effect on one’s mental health. Participants also showed that the more they used their phone the more sleep disturbances and symptoms of depression occurred.
I don’t think these stats are that shocking for most of us. I have noticed that when I use my phone (a lot) before bed, I take longer to fall asleep. Maybe you have noticed the same effect. Later on I will come back to this point.

Problems w/ EyeSight
Yupp. Had to name this one.
Studies have shown that excessive exposure to ‘blue light’ is not good for our eyes. I do think it’s good to take things with a grain of salt. I don’t think just the blue light is causing issues to our eyes…
I have experienced many times that my eyes started hurting a little bit after spending too much time on my phone.
My eyes get lazy and honestly at that moment my whole body is.
It’s a sign to do something active, go for a walk outside 🙂
EMF Radiation Exposure
EMF Radiation is radiated by your cell phone. It happens all the time when your phone is turned on.
You may think: “Oh well, it’s very little exposure, I don’t care!”. However, I wouldn’t recommend this mindset!
Since you carry your phone the whole day with you, close to your body, you get a lot of exposure. There are tons of negative health effects of EMF radiation. You can google if you want more information on this. Here I have a list of the health issues.
- Chronic headaches
- Hormonal imbalances
- Cancer
Let’s start!
Okay so now we all know why you really (!) shouldn’t use your phone too much, we can start our Digital Detox! Here are 5 easy tips you can use to get rid of your phone addiction.
1. Clean ur phone – Marie Kondo style!
First, we need to make sure that we don’t get manipulated into spending a lot of time on our phone. Social media has created tons of ways to keep you on the app.
There are however a few ways you can minimize this manipulation. We will start with unfollowing everyone that doesn’t motivate you to be the best version of yourself.
Don’t follow people that aren’t likable.
Who is likable to you will be different from someone else and that’s totally okay. Find your people and unfollow/unsubscribe from everyone that doesn’t benefit you.

2. Delete those stupid apps
We all have those apps…
You know exactly what I am talking about.
Just get rid of those apps that don’t help you. You don’t use them so just throw them away. It also saves phone storage.
3. Read a book instead
Scrolling through your phone just before you go to bed is really bad for you. It totally messes up your circadian rhythm and mental health. Instead read a good book one hour before going to bed and don’t go on your phone afterwards!
Why it messes with you >>>>>>>
So number 1 you won’t fall asleep very fast and when you fall asleep, you will sleep less deep.
And number 2 it’s bad for your mental health. Don’t scroll through someone’s ig page to make you feel jealous of their life.
Don’t life through them or your friends.
Make your own memories and store them in your mind!
Make your life feel alive!
Feel the energy and dopamine through your body in the natural way. Go visit nature!

4. Say NO to push notifications
Go to your settings now and turn of your notifications 🙂
I personally don’t have any notifications, except my whatsapp since only ‘important’ people message me on there.
I have never really had tons of notifications so I don’t really know what it’s like to have many. However, I can imagine it giving you FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out).
Say ‘F them’ and go live your real life.
Don’t live in an illusion.
5. Find alternatives
I understand you may need to use your phone for certain things in life. For example your alarm or clock or something else.
But let’s be honest…
You are very likely to get distracted while doing this. It also gives you another excuse to alway have your phone with you.
We need to get rid of those excuses.
We can do this by finding alternatives for the phone. Buy an alarm clock, watch or just an encyclopedia of information.
