4 Reasons To Eat Chocolate + The Best Candy!
~ I grew up (like many Dutchies) eating hagelslag -a.k.a. chocolate- on my bread. I know! I know! Sounds pretty good!
Last week I went to a city in the Netherlands. Of course I had to take a look at all the small shops in the city center. I came across a beautiful chocolate store.
Before I knew it my legs had decided it was time to enter this little store and have a look at all the different chocolate products.
The owner offered me chocolate. And when I say it tasted heavenly, I MEAN IT! I decided to buy the dark chocolate version of this chocolate.
The reason I told you this little story is because we are going to talk about chocolate today. Specifically about cacao!
Chocolate & cacao
I have never been a fan of candy, they make me feel nauseous. However, I will gladly make an exception for chocolate, specifically speaking of pure chocolate.
I grew up (like many Dutchies) eating hagelslag -a.k.a. chocolate- on my bread. I know! I know! Sounds pretty good! Though, it’s not the healthiest breakfast to start the day with. Especially if you eat milk chocolate, which contains more sugar and less cocoa.
But did you know that eating pure chocolate does have some great benefits?
Cacao is the ingredient that we are going to focus on in this blog post. It’s recommended to eat chocolate with 85% cacao in it, since most antioxidants are in this. Of course you can opt for a lower percentage if this is too bitter for you.
If you would ask me, I like my chocolate a little bitter.
I once had a chocolate bar with 95% cocoa. I have to admit that this was a little too bitter for me. But hey… I had to get this one because it had a gorilla on it 🙂
Side note: 95% chocolate doesn’t mean 95% cacao, it means 5% sugar. So those percentages can be a bit misleading. Of course we all know that sugar is not our best friend.
1. Improve Memory
So let’s get it started in here!! (Forgot from which song this was, but it popped in my head 🙂 )
In the Netherlands everyone needs to do a test in school when he/she is 11 years old. This test should show which education level is good for you. This test is a pretty big deal for a 11 year old. To calm the nerves you can bring whatever and as much food as you desire, as long as it doesn’t make a sound.
I choose to bring my favorite chocolates and grapes. (I know, I know, weird combination! But hey… I was 11)
You can probably already guess how the test/exam went… Pretty good! In fact, it was so good that my level was raised. I was allowed to do have/vwo.
I don’t want to give all the credit to the chocolate, since the grapes are chill fruits and I worked really hard for it. But I do think those chocolates helped me a tiny bit.
Let me now explain how this should work according to scientists. They know what’s up with the cacao.
There are certain antioxidants that are very good for your brain. They activate the region in your brain that’s responsible for learning and memory. And you can guess where those antioxidants can be found, in cacao!
2. Boost your SENSUALITY
When you think of chocolate you think of the color black. However, the color red also pops into my mind.
I believe we have all seen these commercials in which a beautiful lady in red eats a chocolate very sensually. Of course, that’s a little exaggerated 😉
But… I do think there’s a truth in it. Chocolate has a very intense taste, especially the pure ones.
When you eat the chocolate slowly and let the taste fill your mouth, you will feel more connected to your senses. And thus, you will awaken your sensuality!
3. VIBE better
Who doesn’t want to vibe better?
And what better way to do this than with chocolate!
Chocolate has shown that it can reduce your stress. I have never been someone to really struggle with stress. (We are very down to earth here in the Netherlands.) But I have definitely experienced feeling more calm after eating some pure chocolate.
If you wanna calm your mind and relax your body, eat some chocolate. You can do this for example before you start to meditate.
4. HEALTHY 4 the body
There are many other health benefits of consuming cacao. It contains many more antioxidants, calcium and many more ingredients that are important for our bodies.
I do want to add a little side note.
Side note: Consuming too much chocolate is not healthy, especially if it’s milk or white chocolate. There is a lot of sugar and unhealthy fats in these chocolates. It’s therefore not recommended to eat too much chocolate.
Let me know (in the comments) if you are a chocolate lover like me <3 I love reading comment from you guys!
